My original and from looking at it, think is was from the black plug with OEM stickers on it exactly matched this one. Mine had 318,000 mile on it. The two contacts that face down on the upper plastic part have 6 stamped projections that them and the springs hold the switch lever centered when it is off. Mine were worn smooth and lever would droop down cutting signal light on but just not blinking till you pulled it down further. That also was a sort of a hit or miss. New one works great. I held small clips that held wires in plug and removed plug. Pulled wires down thru channel with a heavy shoestring. You also need a wheel puller and the small C shaped pressing tool to push that plate down in the column to remove circle clip. Borrow it from AutoZone. Do not attempt to do it without this. Also carefully using a razor blade or exacto knife, reset the terminals so they relock in plastic plug if you remove them. Just lift them slightly. And shame on you if you mix them up. It may need to break in but it seems stiff and sometimes will not flip back to the center position. This means I sometimes drive down the road looking like a dork with my blinker on. It still works better than the old one which was broken. Replacing this switch is way easier than the wiper switch. You will need to borrow a lock plate compressor tool from your local parts store. I have done it without this but it is a real pain without it. Good luck.

Installation was relatively easy on my CJ if you just lower the steering column a bit. Shipping was very quick.
