  • Fun Model to make and observe, but not so excellent with the movement ability

The good: Looks-wise, it's amazing. Quite the massive size and detail when seeing how the Bucket Wheel Excavator looks as that was part of the reason I wanted to get this product. 16 hours of building this monstrosity was well worth for the way it looks. Got quite the weight for once, but it's nothing I can't handle. The bad: One battery box and one XL motor isn't enough to really get the vehicle to turn or move very fast. It doesn't need to be quick moving or rotating, but the fact that it's slow on both frustrates me quite a bit. If it had the rotating and moving speed at the same rate as a human's walking pace (or close to it), I'd give it a 5 across the board. Otherwise, it's a good product for what it was worth to me personally.

  • If you're looking for a challenge

If you're looking for a challenge this big boy has 3929 pieces. My 8 year old godson's previous best was a little over 2,000. He doesn't seem to take much interest in what he's actually building just how many pieces he has to put together. He loves it. The only problem is keeping his younger brother away from it as he loves to play destruction derby with anything his older brother builds.

  • My first Lego set

This was my first Lego set. It was very easy and straightforward to build; everything works great. I liked it so much I then bought the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The bucket wheel kit is a 2-for-1 kit. You can also build a mobile processing plant (instructions must be downloaded from Lego - there are 2 PDF files). I don't want to take the bucket wheel apart, so I'm half tempted to buy another set to have the processing plant side-by-side with the bucket wheel.

  • Woefully under powered!!! Each power train needs a separate motor.

As an engineer I was very disappointed in this kit. I have rebuilt the rotary bucket assembly 4 times now and it just will not rotate without significant friction. The power trains are simply too long and not precise enough to produce smooth operation. Even after pulling the bucket drive gear, the other movements are still herky-jerky / bouncy. I have always been a fan of Technics, but not this kit... especially for the price!! I have grow accustomed to better from LEGO. This is their most disappointing kit to date!

  • Really nice set, intricate mechanism

Really nice set. Instructions were quite clear. One of the gear trains sticks a little bit; I don't know if its something i did wrong or the tolerances of the build are very tight, but otherwise works smoothly.

  • pricey, but well worth the money!

I can't think of a better present for my 13 year old grandson. It was challenging to put together, but not impossible for anyone, any age, if they are mechanically inclined. He spent hours on the construction, learning a lot and enjoying the set immensely. Would heartily recommend the Bucket Wheel Excavator!

  • Huge set

Good for kids that are up for a big project that takes around 20 hours for a young teen to complete. All the boys really enjoyed playing with the power functions "excavating" pile of Legos. Overall, if you are looking for a huge Lego set, this is a good choice. Only hesitation was that the price is on the high end of Lego sets, but, are Legos and universal to pass down and use with other sets.

  • Extremely complex and amazing set

Don't work on it unless you have a lot of table space. This thing is incredible.
