Great pedal

Over the years I've tried alot of overdrive pedals (there is a difference between distortion and overdrive). If your a metal head and play guitar and want a classic 80's tone this pedal will give you that sound especially if you use a tube amp that does not have built in distortion. So if you have lets say a peavy valve king you dont need a pedal, but if you have a marshall jcm 800 or a fender bassman this pedal will give you a damn good sound, i personally have a nady-gth 100 and it sounds amazing with the tube screamer. Its well worth the money if you can pick one up then get it, in my opinion an amp modler can only take you so far and they dont sound as good and solid state amps arent worth the money. Nothing beats the sound of a tube amp and a tube screamer, if that is the sound you want, i happen to like the classic 80s metal tone. Read full review...

It's got mojo, but...

This is a great, classic pedal for up to medium level distortion. It definitely has some mojo to it and creates some cool overtones with a tube amp - stuff that is hard to get with another pedal. r>
It is a bit notchy in the midrange and if that is what you are looking for, then this will work great. If you use it as a lead boost it could work really well for a classic pushed medium distortion tone. You may have to dial your amp in with a little more bass and treble and then kick this on to warm up the middle for leads.

I use a Marshall JVM so I already have a lot of variety, but like to tweak the sound and distortion level to add even more variety. I have a Fulltone OCD and a Digitech Bad Monkey already. I ended up selling the Tube screamer. The Bad Monkey can be dialed in a little better, tone wise and the OCD has a different frequency response. Neither of these two have the same "mojo" effect on the tubes that the tube screamer does though.

Good classic rock and blues tone. Read full review...

TS9 still green and mean!

This pedal is still your best bet for overdrive that lets your guitar come thru. There are some other fine pedals but none better and most not as sweet in this price range. It has great dynamics also with your picking technic. Great pedal! If you don't have one get one.Read full review...

That Tone

Being fairly new to playing guitar (6 years) I've been searching for a certain tone, buying various pedals and amps with no luck, but with this pedal I can dial in the perfect tone in seconds. The pedal is very responsive to pickups, well built pedal with great mods.Read full review...

Awesome Tube Screamer!

This is exactly what a TS9/TS808 should sound like! Analogman's upgrades and silver mod make this pedal far more playable than the stock version. It can go from boost with a slight edge to some serious overdrive, with a functional tone knob and plenty of volume.

I played it straight into a 1965 Fender Champ which already sounds good when cranked. This pedal just put it over the top! I then tried it into a Roland Cube 80GX solid state amp, which has a great clean sound and decent OD tone. With the AM Silver TS9 gain up slightly, channel 2 didn't muddy up or generate artifacts and actually sounded really good! Harmonics, sustain, and edge like you would expect from a tube amp, but blasting out of a 1 x 12 solid state combo.

You can't go wrong with one of these!

Legendary Sound right here

It’s probably one of the most versatile petals you can find it holds a classic rating because it’s widely used, although other enthusiast of the more aggressive pedals such as the boss SD-1 would beg to differ because they’re saying it’s not as aggressive others would use it as a boost to a SD-1 or any other blues driver pedal but if you have a Strat buckle your safety belt because it’ll be as good as it gets especially if your Stratocaster has Texas special where it’s overwhelmed pick ups, especially the middle, which is RWRP would give it the vocals and the sound that it needs to shine any other who would rate this pedal as weaker not as aggressive take a bit over the top and bottom that’s exactly what this pedal is supposed to do the boss SD –1 is no different It may be a bit more aggressive but it dies the same thing it supposed to give you a Mid range hump Read full review...

This pedal rocks

First night I plugged this in front of my EVH 5150 III, I knew this pedal is exactly what I wanted. I rolled my gain back on my amp, increased my main volume, and added this in front. I was able to get rid of that evh high gain hiss, and this didn't change my tone. Just added beef. If you're looking to add something to the front of your amp this is highly recommended. 20+ Years of stage exclusive.Read full review...

Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer

The TS9 can do it all. I like it as a fairly clean boost in volume for playing clean lead parts. It also can give much gain and all that goes with it. I used one in the 1980's and I'm glad to have another. Highly recommended.Read full review...

Great mod!

I loved the Fromel Chorus mod so much that I went and bought an old Tube Screamer, just to do the Fromel mod. It certainly improved the sound....Sorry, don't know the technical aspects enough to explain it, but I know it's there. It really helps drive tube amps, and the hiss that drove through my system has vanished, switching it on is a joy.
The only thing I would recommend: Make sure that you practice desoldering on some other thing first. Careful attention, an inexpensive soldering iron...you're good to go.
